Steam engines
There are 25 traction engines and road rollers expected which range from miniatures through to 15 ton full size engines. You can take in the aroma of the steam and steam oil mixed of days gone by, right back to the 1900’s. It’s often been said that if you could bottle it and sell it, you would make a fortune as there is nothing quite like the smell of a steam engine.
You will be able to see wood sawing and thrashing corn, both powered by steam. These are just a few of the duties that were required of the steam engines.
There will also be road rollers in attendance which played their part in early road building, they would roll out hard core to form the roads of the time and later rolled out the tarmacadam roads we know today. The road rollers carried on the longest out of all the different types of engines.
The miniatures are full working examples of the full size and often take years to machine all the components, these are usually built by the owners.
There will be tasks performed in the arena by both miniatures and full size to be enjoyed by the public and engine owners alike.
Tractors
The vintage and classic tractor section is a showcase of tractors dating from 1919 to the early 90s. Marvel at how the tractor has evolved from a simple tractor which towed it’s implement to the revolutionary Ferguson three point linkage which enabled one tractor to be a versatile tool on small holdings and larger farms in North Wales and beyond. Take a walk back in time around the working area where you will see a large display of working exhibits demonstrating threshing, baling and other interesting machinery used in farming from the past.
Those who have attended in the past might have seen or even taken part in the tractor balancing challenge, a great fun challenge where the tractor drivers attempt to balance their tractor equally off the ground. Certainly a fun attraction for both drivers and onlookers!
Stationary engines
The marvelous stationary engines are the grass roots of the vintage scene with many youngsters starting off with one of these engines before moving on to larger exhibits. Stationary engines have spent their lifetime on farms or in industries. They vary in horse power and size, some are water cooled and others are air cooled. These machines would have powered a variety of machines via a belt coupling, some were used to run corn-grinders, water pumps, generators, saw benches, sheep shearing equipment etc.
Take a walk down the engine line and let your senses take you back in time through the sound, motion and smell of these magnificent machines.
